If you had applied the Critical updates since 07/16/2003 you may NOT need to do any of this!

[If your computer continually restarts itself you will need to install this patch.]

Step #1:

If your computer keeps restarting you may need to do this before you can download the patches successfully:
1) Right-click on your 'My Network Places' icon and left-click on 'Properties'.
2) Find your Internet connection method (Internet Provider Icon, or 'Local Area Connection' if connected via a network), and right-click on the icon, and choose 'Properties'.
3) Under the 'Advanced' tab make sure the box is checked 'Protect My Computer...', then click ok.
4) Continue on with the next steps...

Download and Install:

WinXP Security Update:

[If you get a virus warning message regarding the Blaster worm, or you had your computer restart on you continually, you will need to follow the next steps.]

Step #2: (Remember to turn this back on after you are all finished).

To turn off System Restore

  1. Open System Properties.
  2. Ensure that the Turn off System Restore check box is selected.

 Notes

  • To open System Properties, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System. In the System Properties dialog box, click the System Restore tab.
  • If you cannot turn System Restore off, your domain administrator might have enforced administrative system Group Policy on System Restore. Contact your domain administrator.

Step #3:

If you get a virus warning regarding the blaster worm, you definitely need to run this fix.

Save file to local hard drive (in your 'My Documents' folder - Not 'Desktop'),

After finished downloading, double-click on the FixBlast.exe program to begin the fix.

Make sure to re-start your computer after this is finidhed.


Step #4:

Run the Windows Updates again, you may have about 7 Critical updates (if you ran the fix in step #3).

Remember to turn back 'ON' your System Restore option as in Step #2 (above).
