Storm Water Solutions

Reed & Graham offers a wide variety of post construction BMP’s to satisfy Federal Stormwater Phase II regulations.  These systems used in conjunction with construction BMP’s provide owners and contractor’s assurance they are providing the highest level of compliance with NPDES regulations. Reed & Graham is committed to helping our customers keep waterways as clean as possible while providing environmentally friendly solutions to construction and post construction requirements.

Stormwater Management Devices

In March of 2000, the EPA Stormwater Phase II Compliance Assistance Guide defined a post construction BMP as “activities or structural improvements that help reduce the quantity and improve the quality of stormwater runoff”.  Most stormwater management professionals tend to utilize two basic techniques to comply with hydro-modification requirements….either increase pervious areas which results in decreased runoff or find a place to store stormwater as a way to delay peak flows.

Application, Stormwater Storage

As part of the Low Impact Development (LID) and stormwater Phase II regulations, most projects are required to either match pre-construction hydrology or at least limit the increase in stormwater runoff due to development.  Initially, above ground ponds were the solution of choice but owners soon realized the ponds came with too many long term liabilities.  With the continual increase in the cost of land, underground structures are now growing in popularity.  Pipe, concrete vaults and arched chambers all serve to store stormwater, but because of their high void space; modular stormwater storage boxes can store more water in a much smaller footprint.  Modular tanks are H-20 or H-25 load rated, lightweight and easy to install with no special equipment, making them a very cost effective approach to managing the site stormwater.  Modular structures may be installed under driveways, parking lots, or even under the streets depending on local codes, they must provide a completed structure capable of H-20 loading according to AASHTO (American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials) test methods.  AASHTO test methods require independent live load testing as well as static testing to failure.  Allowing for safety factors to be calculated for the system.  In addition to load rating, other factors that need to be considered include the footprint of the system, void ratio and ease of installation.  The storage system should have quality control procedures in place that track and test every step of the manufacturing process from raw material to  finished product.

Keeping true to our commitment to our customers, Reed & Graham is pleased to provide you with an modular stormwater storage system meets or exceeds all of these requirements.  We have aligned our company with the strongest independently tested and certified system on the market today.  Of course any underground structure has its limitations.  In order for these systems to work properly, care in design is a must.  First, the design has to control and eliminate sediment from reaching the tank.  The design should also include a method of cleaning the tank if sediment does accumulate in the tank.  Finally, the design needs to address whether it is going to be used as retention, detention or for water harvesting application.  In addition to design, cost and installation methods for final cost need to be considered.  Our products have an initial low cost and with one of the smallest footprint requirements of any system on the market, our final installed cost tends to be far below competing systems.

Strength, low initial and final cost with the highest certifiable strength available makes our modular stormwater storage system the owners, designers and contractors choice!  For more information, contact our stormwater team!

Application, Stormwater Inlet Protection Devices

The current regulations are requiring retrofitting for both commercial and industrial sites.  Grate Inlet and Curb Inlet devices are the most cost effective BMP.  Manufactured with stainless steel and marine grade fiberglass, our inlet devices carry a 5 year warranty.  These inlet filters are extremely effective in capturing hydrocarbon as well as heavy metals while being the least expensive product on the market to maintain and clean (Hawaii study).  All of our filter systems are custom manufactured to fit your individual site requirements, being new construction or existing retrofit projects.

Application:  Stormwater In-line devices

Reed & Graham carries two different devices for in-line stormwater treatment systems.  The first is an inline nutrient separating baffle box.  This device collects all the gross trash and once the storm subsides, the trash is kept out of the water to prevent continued nutrient leaching in the stagnate water, which remains in this type of device.

We are please to offer the next generation of stormwater treatment devices.  Modular Wetlands System is utilizes a multistage treatment process, similar to that of a “treatment train”, but the key to the Modular Wetlands is that it is built in a self contained concrete box.  The Modular Wetlands Systems carries stormwater thru the various stages of treatment.  It begins by capturing and screening out the trash, gross solids and sediment, next it settles out suspended solids, and filters fine TSS (total suspended solids), metals, nutrients and bacteria. Finally water directed to the wetlands chamber for biological remediation. Each Modular Wetlands unit is capable of treating runoff from sites up to one acre.  This system is the most cost effective treatment device on the market and sets the standard for filter efficiencies.  For more information please contact our Stormwater sales team!

Application, Porous Pavement

TurfPave XD is a specially designed porous pavement system made of 100% recycled high-density polypropylene.  Its lightweight design and H-20 load rating allows for endless options on roadway and drainage applications.  TurfPave XD can be installed using turf, gravel or bark, in a wide range of applications.  Interlocking panels can be place to create roadways, sidewalks, overflow parking, and is strong enough to withstand everyday use.

Application:  End of Pipe Energy dissipation

NPDES Phase II rule #5 requires post-construction Stormwater runoff controls, as well as their inspection and maintenance.  Typically the end of pipe product of choice has been Rip Rap to reduce energy.  ScourStop is a new system designed to transition from the pipe to a channel flow.  Scourstop eliminates the 3-10 foot hole that eventually develops at the end of the pipe, when rip rap is installed, while helping the water transition to laminar flow significantly reducing shear stress, the major cause of failures at the end of the pipe.

Application, Green Roofs

Reed & Graham now carries products to help in building of green roofs.  VersiPave is an adjustable pedestal support that alters in height and slope to create walkways on rooftops.  This inexpensive product is easy to install and adjust to make walkways level.  A new product is Amergreen drainage products.  It works by capturing excess water from the roof, and storing a portion to provide additional moisture for plants during dry seasons.
